Black Forest Trifle


This is a easy to make, but fancy to look at and great to eat dessert. This is a recipe of my own invention.

*******************

Needed to make the cake:

* 1 box chocolate cake mix

Step 1: Make exactly as the directions on the box say, except for one thing. Use milk in place of the water.

Step 2: Allow to cool completely. Then remove the top of each cake and cut into squares. Set aside.

Needed to make the whipped cream:

* 2 cups heavy whipping cream

* 1 powered sugar

Step 1: Beat the cream until soft peaks form. Add the sugar and beat on high for another minute. Set aside.

Needed to make the dark chocolate ganache:

*9 oz of dark chocolate chips

*1 cup of heavy whipping cream

Step 1: Heat the cream until just starting to boil. Pour over chocolate.

Step 2: Mix well.

Also needed:

* 4 or 5 maraschino cherries

* 3 tbsp. chopped nut topping

* chocolate fudge sauce (ice cream topping)

* 2 cans cherry pie filling

Putting it all together:

Step 1: Place cubes of cake in a layer.

Step 2: Add a half a can of pie filling and spread evenly.

Step 3: Sprinkle a layer of nuts on top.

Step 4: Add 1/4 of the ganache on top of the cake.

Step 5: Add 1/4 of the cream on top of the ganache.

Step 6: Drizzle on a light layer of fudge sauce.

Step 7: Repeat 1-6 until you reach the top. Should be around 4 layers.

Step 8: Use maraschino cherries on top, sprinkle on nuts and drizzle fudge sauce on top.

Store in refrigerator. Serve chilled.
